"A creative atmosphere where writers share work and experiences"

The Reading Room
A charming new writing venue in the Lake District

The Reading Room is situated in the heart of Ulverston, a bustling market town with a variety of independent shops, pubs and cafes along its cobbled streets. This festival town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and situated on the northern shore of Morecambe Bay at the gateway to the Cumbria Way. A charming location, providing a unique stimulus for creativity.

I host occasional weekend writing courses, suitable for both new and experienced writers. Catering for a maximum of 8 participants at a time, I provide in depth discussion and a supportive, encouraging environment for individual writers. My workshops are informative and well prepared and the company stimulating. The welcome is warm, the local food delicious.

My aim is, not only to provide professional feedback and tuition in a beautiful environment, but to encourage discussion on work in progress and build a supportive group of writers who may remain in contact and continue to share work and advice.  This is a rare opportunity, not only to gain new skills, but to put them into practice over the weekend.

My weekend Story Surgeries are a unique opportunity to share and develop work in progress, at any stage, from original idea through to full draft. I offer a creative, productive space for writers to connect and advance their work significantly with the support of their peers.  This is about active learning and engagment with your work rather than lecturing.

Weekends begin with coffee and cake and run from 10am until 5pm on Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday, with plenty of breaks to explore this delightful little town.
